FAQ's

Will my carving crack?

It depends. Many of our smaller carvings are carved from kiln dried pine. These carvings will not crack because the wood is 100% dry prior to carving. Excluding these, all other carvings are carved from full logs. It is the nature of a log to develop cracks. Cracking is considered a positive aspect of chainsaw carvings, giving them a unique, natural character. Cracking can be controlled and kept to a minimum by resealing the carving with high quality spar urethane and keeping the carving out of direct sunlight. Many of our carvings will also have a relief cut down the back side. This gives the log a spot to contract as it dries and eliminates the chance of any large cracks forming on the front. More carving care information can be found in the Carving Care section.

Where do you get your logs?

All of our logs are sourced locally from fallen limbs/trees or from local tree service companies. The trees we use, have already been cut down for other reasons. We don't cut down any trees for the sole purpose of creating carvings.

How long will a carving last?

Carvings displayed indoors or in a protected area (covered porch) will not degrade over time as they are not exposed to the elements. If a carving is displayed outdoors, some routine maintenance is recommended to prevent any degradation over time. When you receive your carving, it already has several coats of high quality spar urethane. This helps to slow the drying process, reducing cracking, and also protects it from the elements if the carving is displayed outdoors. Following some simple care instructions will ensure that your carving lasts for decades. All care instructions can be found in the Carving Care section.

Do you carve trees at peoples homes?

Yes we do on-site carving work in the southwest Michigan area. We do a limited amount of these carvings during the summer season. Currently we are not scheduling any new on-site work. If you are interested in having us do an on site carving in the future, please Contact Us
